The spot-lit birds' nests in Fiona Pardington's photographs meditate on the survival of native and introduced species, and the mauri, or life principle, inherent in museum collections. As relics of the natural world, the nests are connected to the whenua, or land, but as metaphors the works also key into notions of survival, protection, nurturing, life, death and love.
